Really disappointing!
We were keen to watch this one, based on reviews, but it’s deeply flawed. While the concept is fun, the children (especially the older daughter) treat their parents awfully. There’s a complete absence of kindness here....and then, instead of any consequences, the parents agree to the teen’s demands.Really poor role modelling here - for parents and kids both.

Ok, Parents. Chill.
This movie wasn't supposed to be a Grammy awarding, kids are angels, everything is sunshine and rainbows movie. It's just supposed to be funny and cute and perfect for a family movie night. While I agree there was some mature content, this isn't a G-rated movie and the reviews were right here for you to read BEFORE you watched it, so you shouldn't have been surprised. -The daughter does have some disrespectful attributes, but she's a teenager. They aren't perfect and for a teen to be portrayed as perfect in a movie would be wrong. She looked out for her siblings, resolved her relationship with her mom, and apologized. -The projects they did in school were not meant to make the mom mad because if she had gotten mad, it would have been the same circle all over again that her children were trying to prove with their projects. -the music festival turned out to be a lesson to Katie about life, and I'm glad that was added in there. The guys never disrespected her, and even her friends (Layla) respected her decision not to go into the tent. I really admired Katie's strength when she knew going with the boys was wrong, and she stood up for herself.-As for the ending, the dad grounded them all, what more do you want? Nando did his best to try and stop the party before it got any worse, so it's not his fault. The happy ending was not supposed to show that bad actions can go without consequences, it was supposed to show that no matter what you do, mom and dad will always love you. That was the point of the movie. -Yes Day was really good, my whole family watched it, our youngest being 5, and he laughed the whole time as well as my dad and mom. (I am 15). I loved this movie because it really showed the importance of loosening up and loving your family. If you don't like the mature themes (that are barely there) then I would suggest Finding Nemo, cause you can't hide your kids from this stuff forever, besides, what's the worst that could happen? They might want a Yes Day after watching this?

Disrespectful kids, dumb parent stereotypes will leave you having to explain why this movie is wrong to your children
I work at a school with kids with behavior issues, and we have a movie once a week to reward positive behaviors. We spend a lot of time helping them understand accepting no decisions and respecting authority, but this movie made all their wrong ideas justified. Please don't watch it with kids, even though it has a common sense selection badge. I ignored the one star reviews to my own peril. We are only finishing the movie so I can explain why it's wrong and things don't work the way the movie showed.

Bad values
The kids are incredibly rude and disrespectful throughout the film, the teenage girl in particular always has a bad attitude. Early on the film the kids even design school projects comparing their mother to evil dictators who have murdered millions of people. The parents do nothing to correct this outrageous behavior except to half-heartedly say, "please be nicer to your mom." Yeah, I'm not buying that these parents have even the slightest control over their kids or what goes on in their family, they're clearly too lax to begin with. It sets a bad example about how to treat others and I would never let my kids watch it.

Not for kids under 8
Had to deal with a kid completely inconsolable because the daycare that she goes to decided to watch this movie today. She came home asking for a Yes Day, and at least I knew enough to say no that isn't a real thing. So she went to her room and started crying because she wanted a Yes Day so bad. She still struggles to understand that movies aren't real even though we've told her over and over again. Thank you for the other reviews because I was able to talk about it with her and point out that the purpose of the movie was to be nicer to parents and that the kids in that movie aren't very nice to their parents.

Lots of laughs but needless mature content
Watched this with my 7- and 10-year olds. On the whole thought it was a pretty good "family" movie - meaning, entertaining for the kids and the adults. Lots of laughs, and even teared up a bit once or twice! BUT --If I am being picky, my main issues were:1) some needlessly mature/cingey content -- sort of went over my kids' heads (thankfully) and therefore seem like they could have been omitted. Examples: -twerking (um, I was horrified!)-the description of the faux-reality show (as a cover for Kablowey) as "sexy" and guys subsequently showing off their abs-the *mere presence* of boys around young women ("underaged, vunerable") being portrayed as a huge threat seems sort of problematic-obviously (to adults) many people at Fleekfest were high/on drugs, yet I think there was a missed opportunity for the movie to name this for what it was. My 7-year old had no idea what was happening and basically thought it was funny/weird (not troubling or upsetting) that people were acting so strange. I realize this isn't a G movie and so some more mature content is expected; I just feel like a lot of that could have been omitted or improved upon and it would have been a stronger movie. It would have been a better movie if they'd omitted some of the more superficial mature content and actually expanded on (rather than glossing over) some of the meatier stuff for the sake of a more realistic cautionary tale.2) the lack of nuance over the kids' decision-making and how it would affect others in the familyThe other issue I had about this movie was that there really didn't seem to be a logical outcome at the end. Of course, everything is exaggerated and un-realistic for comedic/dramatic effect, but anyone else wonder how Yes Day continues even after the kids do some seriously dangerous things to get what they want (lying to escape the police station, big sister leaving underaged siblings at home alone (WHAT?!), house party results in some pretty serious property damage, etc.) I feel like we could have had our "okay, now we've all learned something from this crazy experience" moment without just basically ignoring all the legitimately dangerous things the parents and the kids did. They made it clear the kids would be grounded and made them clean the house - yet the evening (must be 1am at this point!?!) ends on a warm and fuzzy note with them all happy again. Who's going to pay for that smashed TV, even if Nando himself didn't do it? Again - I realize it's just a movie, we did really enjoy it, and it did allow for some good conversations with my kids. I would watch it again. I liked it well enough to spend time writing this critique!
